Concrete work we do in Duluth, MN

Duluth Concrete Works is a concrete contractor in Duluth, MN, with 16 services for homes, builders and businesses. Most calls start with something you can see, like a cracked driveway, a sinking walk or water pooling by the house, and some start with a plan for something new. Price usually turns on the size of the job, how much old concrete comes out, what the base needs and how awkward the site is. The schedule depends on the season, the weather, any permit and the curing, which is the wait before new concrete can take weight. Your estimate is where you get your own number.

  • Wide concrete driveway with light and dark bands leads to two garage doors on a stone-faced house.

    Concrete driveway building

We dig out, pack the base and pour a new driveway sized for your cars, with control joints, cut lines that give cracks a planned place to go.

  • A brown stamped concrete patio with a wood-grain pattern forms a raised step beside sliding glass doors.

    Concrete patio construction

A concrete patio gives you a flat spot for the grill and a table, and we slope it away from the house so rain runs off.

  • A curved stamped concrete patio with a slate-like pattern wraps around a house beside landscaped garden beds.

    Stamped concrete services

Stamped concrete is poured like any slab, then pressed with patterns that look like stone, brick or tile, for patios and walks where you want more than plain gray.

  • New concrete sidewalk and driveway apron in front of a gray house, bordered by a dark asphalt drive and green lawns.

    Concrete sidewalk building

We build walks from the driveway to the door, around the side of the house or out to the street, with a broom finish, brushed lines that help your footing.

  • Brown stamped concrete patio with a brick-like pattern extends from the back entrance of a house.

    Garage floor concrete

Is the garage floor cracked, chipping or sloped the wrong way? We tear out and pour garage floors built to carry your vehicles and shed water toward the door.

  • Light gray concrete sidewalk and driveway curve around a narrow planting bed beside a house and garage.

    Decorative concrete

Decorative concrete means color, texture and edges worked into the slab, for entries, patios and storefront walks where looks matter as much as wear.

  • Covered backyard patio has an irregular stone-pattern concrete floor, outdoor seating, and a landscaped retaining wall.

    Concrete retaining walls

Is a slope washing out or eating your yard? We build poured retaining walls that hold the ground back, with drainage behind so water doesn't build up pressure.

  • Bright kitchen with pale wood flooring, dark cabinets, a large island, and exposed timber beams beneath skylights.

    Concrete floor installation

We pour interior floors for basements, shops and commercial spaces, set flat and level so shelving, equipment or flooring can go right on top.

  • An overhead view of a freeform swimming pool and circular spa surrounded by a pale concrete deck.

    Concrete pool decks

What makes a good pool deck? A textured surface that grips when wet and a slope that sends water away from the pool, which is how we build them.

  • Concrete steps and patterned walkway lead to a decorated front door, bordered by low stone retaining walls and garden beds.

    Concrete steps construction

Crumbling front steps get torn out and replaced with new formed steps of even height, so every step feels the same underfoot for you and your guests.

  • Wood-look stamped concrete patio surrounds a circular stone fire pit and curved outdoor seating.

    Slab foundation building

For garages, additions and new buildings, we pour slab foundations on a packed subgrade, the ground the slab sits on, with rebar, steel bars that help hold it together.

  • Modern courtyard patio with light concrete pavers, a black pergola, lounge seating, and a ping-pong table.

    Foundation installation

We form and pour foundations for builders and owners putting up a house, an addition or a commercial building, checked against the plans before any concrete goes in.

  • Freshly finished concrete patio with large rectangular joints beside a beige house.

    Concrete parking lot building

Need parking for customers or tenants? We build concrete lots graded so runoff heads to the drains, and thick enough for the traffic they'll carry.

  • Stamped concrete patio with a gray stone-like pattern, outdoor seating, and surrounding lawn.

    Concrete footings

Footings are the wide concrete pads under walls, posts and decks that spread the weight, and we dig and pour them for builders and homeowners.

  • Broad tan concrete steps descend between dark mulch beds and green plants.

    Foundation raising

Floors sloping or cracks opening in the foundation? We raise settled foundations, and first we look for why they sank, since lifting alone won't fix the cause.

  • Concrete steps with broad gray stone treads lead to a black front door in a red brick house.

    Concrete cutting

Concrete cutting is how we open a basement wall for a door, take out a damaged section of slab or trim old work so new concrete meets it cleanly.

Why homeowners and builders hire us

  • One person from estimate to pour

I look at your job myself and run the crew when we pour it. Nothing gets lost between the person who quoted it and the people building it, so the plan we talked through is the one you get.

  • Itemized estimates, base work included

Our estimates list the base work, removal and cleanup next to the concrete, so you can hold them up against another bid line by line. The base is hidden once we pour and it's the first thing people cut, but I'd put money there before the finish, because a slab settles with whatever is under it.

  • Glad to take awkward jobs

An awkward slope, a tight spot or old concrete that has to meet new is the kind of job we like, and we'll tell you straight what we can know before we dig and what we can't. You get a plan that fits your site and fewer surprises once the ground is open.

How a job goes with us

  1. Call or send a message

Call (218) 514-2182 or send a message through the form with a few words about the job and where it is. We get back to you within one business day to set a time for me to come out and see it.

  2. I look at the site

I come out myself, walk the job with you and ask the questions that matter before a pour, like where the water runs and what the ground under the old slab is doing. Then you get a written estimate that spells out what's included, free and with no obligation.

  3. Permits, then the pour

We pick a pour date that suits the season, and when the job needs a permit we pull it and book the inspections. If you'd rather apply yourself with the city's permit office, I'll tell you what it will want to see from us. On pour day, I'm on site running our crew.

  4. Walk the finished work

When we're done, I walk the work with you so you can see the joints, the edges and how water runs off. I also go over curing, the wait while concrete gains strength before it takes feet or tires, and how to look after it from there.
